THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Batty Langley's
Named after Bartholomew "Batty" Langley, an 18th-century architect who published handbooks on furnishing Georgian houses "in the most Grand Taste" before being locked up in Newgate Prison, each of the Batty Langley’s 29 rooms pay homage to a historic Spitalfields residents (with preference for "tarts and thieves”). The hotel is decorated with Museum-grade Georgian antiques cleverly adapted for modern life: enlarged antique oak bed frames, TVs hidden behind fold-out mirrors, bathrooms concealed behind bookcases. The bathrooms are the real showpiece: restored roll-top baths (some antique Carrara marble, some copper-wrapped), walk-in showers with dinner-plate brass heads, and REN toiletries. Situated on Folgate Street, a small cobbled street dotted with gas lamps, this hotel truly feels like stepping into a luxury 18th century mansion — think deep wine tones, silk curtains, gilded stucco, oil portraits, and Rococo mirrors. If you’re a maximalists who appreciates Georgian wit over minimalist hotels, this is the place to stay.

Your taste already has an address
Pride of Spitalfields is a proper old-school pub. Formerly the Romford Arms, it's where Jack the Ripper suspects allegedly drank. Grab a pint, a salt beef sandwich for £5, and sit the pub cat named Lenny usually asleep on a chair.
