THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Le Chalet Zannier
Megève is the French Alps at their most considered: a medieval village that has managed, over a century of ski tourism, to remain genuinely itself, the layers of the place intact beneath the luxury. The cobblestone square, the horse-drawn carriages, the altitude Michelin restaurants and the jazz clubs are all real, and the backdrop of the Mont Blanc massif behind the tree-lined slopes is the kind of view that makes people book the same week the following year. Le Chalet Zannier is a short walk from the village centre, three Alpine chalets set slightly above the town, with 12 rooms and suites ranging from 35 to 150 square metres, all of them looking out toward the mountains and the valley below. The interiors are built around the principle that simplicity and luxury are not in opposition: rough-hewn timber beams, stone fireplaces, hand-thrown pottery, white linen, old objects given weight by the patina of time. Each suite has a balcony or terrace, a lounge area with its own fireplace, and the kind of Alpine calm that is harder to achieve than it looks. With twelve rooms, the hotel is regularly booked in its entirety by families or groups, which means planning ahead is necessary and the atmosphere, when it is not a buyout, is intimate in a way that larger properties cannot replicate. La Ferme de Mon Père, the restaurant, serves sharing dishes that put vegetables at the centre, a lighter and more considered approach than the rich flavored Alpine formula most guests arrive expecting, open to the public in winter and operating on a more relaxed breakfast model in summer. The spa runs to a Barbara Sturm treatment menu, indoor pool, sauna, and hammam. In winter this is a ski hotel with a shuttle to the slopes and a boot room team that handles the logistics. In summer it becomes something quieter and, for certain travellers, more appealing: a base for hiking, paragliding, and the particular pleasure of a mountain village without the crowds. Both versions are worth knowing about. The short version: Twelve rooms and suites across three Alpine chalets above Megève village, with stone fireplaces, mountain views, a Savoyard restaurant, and the intimate scale of a private chalet with five-star infrastructure.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

Megève rewards beautiful knits and well-cut ski pieces over anything louder. The hotel is intimate and understated. More refined comfort, and cashmere where possible. This is not a place that asks you to try very hard, but it notices when you do not.
