This is Kelly Wearstler doing her uber cool maximalist thing again, but the beachy location seems to have mellowed her palette slightly. Think warm terracottas, vintage textiles, and that eclectic California aesthetic that mixes eras and references with complete confidence. The location works well if you want beach access without actually staying on the sand. You're close enough to walk to the ocean, the farmers market, and Montana Avenue's shops, but removed enough that you can actually sleep without hearing every street performer and skateboard. It's become popular with a younger, design-conscious crowd who want more personality than a standard luxury hotel offers. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that let in excellent light, and Wearstler's interiors are layered with color and texture in ways that either delight or overwhelm depending on your taste. Everything is custom, curated, designed within an inch of its life. The suites feel genuinely spacious, with sitting areas that you'll actually use. The rooftop restaurant and bar, Calabra, gets the best light and has become something of a scene, particularly at sunset when locals flood in for drinks. Downstairs, Onda does solid coastal Spanish food in a moody, theatrical space. The pool is small but well designed, more for lounging with a book than doing laps. Service is warm and unpretentious, which suits the vibe. This isn't stuffy luxury; it's approachable and fun while still being thoughtfully executed. You're more likely to meet creative industry types and European travelers than traditional business crowds.
