Hotel Esencia feels like one of those places you only discover because someone quietly recommended it. Set on a private stretch of Xpu-Ha beach between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, it has a rare kind of understatement. Originally built as a private home, the property still carries that residential feeling. Suites are airy and minimal, with soft linens, cool stone floors, and terraces that open directly onto gardens or the sea. The best rooms are the oceanfront suites, where you can step straight onto the sand and feel completely removed from everything else. It feels intimate, even when the hotel is full. Dining is central to the stay. Mistura serves Mediterranean-inspired dishes with a Mexican touch, while Taiyo brings a more refined Japanese menu into the mix. Both feel polished without being overly formal, and meals tend to stretch out longer than expected, especially when the sea breeze picks up in the evening.
